Employee of the Quarter Spotlight: Jeff Grimes

The Marshalltown Community School District (MCSD) Employee of the Quarter Award recognizes employees who provide excellence in service and attitude to our school community. Recipients are positive role models within their department and/or building and demonstrate a commitment to go above and expectations.

Safety and Security Officer Jeff Grimes at Miller Middle School was one of the second quarter recipients of the award for the 2023-24 school year, nominated by several of his colleagues.

“Jeff has been the perfect addition here at Miller. He can always be found walking around hallways and outside the school making sure the building is safe, but also on his security checks he’s talking to kids, building relationships with them, stopping in classrooms to check on things, checking in with staff, and just overall being such an amazing and safe presence in the building. He’s one of the first people to respond to a staff need on the radio, and he does it quickly with a smile,” said one submission.

Get to know Grimes and his story:

Why did you decide join the Marshalltown Community School District?

I had heard many positive things about the positive work environment from friends and family, and was looking for a little bit different type of job than previously had.

What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Bobcat community?

Everybody I come in contact with is so supportive and friendly. I enjoy having the opportunity to assist the Miller wrestling team.

What about your role at MCSD surprises you?

I thought it would be just about one area, but really I have opportunities to do so much more in the Marshalltown school district.

In your opinion, what makes Marshalltown Community School District special?

The people you are around everyday, everybody works together as a team, which is great. I have a great working relationship with my immediate supervisors who give me the freedom to do my job well.

What does it mean to you to be a Bobcat?

I’m class of ’82, and working now for MCSD has renewed a lot of the old Bobcat Pride!
