Marshalltown High School Athletics is proud to announce the appointment of Ray Dulaney as the new head boys swim coach. Dulaney steps into the role following the retirement of long-time head coach Mike Loupee, who led the program for an incredible 29 years before concluding his tenure after the 2024-2025 season.
Coach Dulaney is no stranger to the Bobcat Swim Community. A 2013 MHS graduate and Bobcat swim alum, he was a four-year letter winner, three-time state qualifier, and still holds a top ten time in the 100 breaststroke in the MHS record books.
For the past four years, Dulaney has served as the assistant boys swim coach under Coach Loupee. His coaching experience also includes time with the Marshalltown YMCA Blue Waves Program, where he was an assistant coach from 2013 to 2018 before taking over as head coach for the USA Swimming program from 2018 to 2020. He holds an American Swim Coaches Association Level 2 certification.
Coach Dulaney brings collegiate experience as well, having competed at Luther College where he was a four-year letterwinner on the Norse swim team and earned a spot in the top ten all-time for the 200 breaststroke. He earned his degree in Physical Education and currently serves as a 9-12 Physical Education teacher at MHS. In addition to his swim coaching duties, he also coaches track at Miller Middle School.
Coach Dulaney shared his excitement about this new opportunity: “It is truly a dream come true for me to lead this program and help continue the tradition and success of MHS Boys Swimming. I am excited to continue working with an amazing group of student-athletes and for what the future holds for our program.”
MHS Athletic Director Ryan Isgrig added, “We are thrilled to have Coach Dulaney step into this leadership role. As both an alum and a dedicated coach within our swim community, Ray brings a deep passion for the sport and a strong connection to our student-athletes. We’re confident his experience, energy, and commitment to excellence will have a lasting impact on the program and help continue its proud tradition.”
Please join us in welcoming Coach Ray Dulaney as he leads the next chapter of Bobcat Boys Swimming!
