The Marshalltown Community School District will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Miller Middle School project on Monday, April 13 at 4:30 p.m., marking a significant milestone in the district’s continued investment in student learning environments and community infrastructure.
The Miller Middle School project represents a transformative reinvestment in one of the district’s most historic school facilities. The project is part of a broader effort to modernize educational spaces, enhance safety and accessibility, and better support the academic and social-emotional needs of students for generations to come. Plans for the project build upon community-supported initiatives to revitalize the existing facility and create a modern learning environment.
Community members, staff, families and local partners are invited to attend the ceremony as the district officially begins this exciting new chapter.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the district will host a final public walkthrough of the current Miller Middle School building. Attendees will have the opportunity to walk through the existing spaces, reflect on the building’s legacy, and learn more about the future of the facility.
In addition to the walkthrough, community members will be able to view project renderings and speak with representatives from Boyd Jones Construction and INVISION Architecture, who will be on-site to share insights and answer questions about the design and construction process. This opportunity will be available until 6 p.m.
“After two years of meticulous planning and collaborative design, we are beyond thrilled to officially break ground on the Miller Middle School expansion and renovation project,” said Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte. “This landmark ceremony on April 13 marks the beginning of a transformative three-year journey that will reimagine our campus for generations to come. This isn’t just about new bricks and mortar; it’s about creating a modern, inspiring environment that matches the incredible ambition and spirit of our students and staff. We can’t wait to turn that first shovel of dirt and start building the future of Miller Middle School together.”
“The building that is Miller Middle School has faithfully housed students for the past 100 years. A historic accomplishment, indeed, but we are grateful for the overwhelming recognition and subsequent support of our community to reimagine this historic space,” said Miller Co-Principal Dave Glenn. “The renovation and expansion will meet the needs of future generations of Miller students in an ever changing educational landscape. Everyone at Miller is looking forward to a much needed renovation and the opportunities that will arise from this project.”
The Marshalltown Community School District looks forward to celebrating this important milestone with the community and continuing its commitment to providing high-quality learning environments for all students.
